WEYMOUTH pupils got into the festive spirit at a traditional German Christmas market.
A group of 29 students from the Wey Valley School visited Cologne’s famous Christmas markets in Germany for a cultural weekend break.
The pupils also visited Cologne Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage, which houses the remains of the Three Kings, as well as the famous Lindt chocolate factory and the city’s outdoor ice rink.
Marie Claridge, trip organiser, said: “The students had a really great time.
“This is the sixth year we have taken a group to Germany for the Christmas markets, and we think it’s an experience not to be missed.
“As Germany’s fourth largest city, Cologne offers our students a wonderful cultural experience. “They were excellent ambassadors for the school and took every opportunity to practice their language skills.”
Julian Richards, who also helped to organise the trip, said: “Cologne Cathedral is Germany’s top tourist attraction and Schildergasse is the country’s most-visited shopping street. The Christmas music, arts and crafts, decorations and the scent of the Christmas food at the markets created a wonderful atmosphere.”
Year 11 pupil Dan Cox said: “It was a fantastic trip. We all really enjoyed discovering the markets and exploring the city.”
Fellow student Ryan Nash said: “The ice skating was fun with everyone having a go. I’m so glad we had the chance to visit Cologne – I would definitely recommend it.”
A photo gallery display has been organised at the school showing the highlights of the trip and the places visited.
