TWO Sherborne schools are travelling to London to perform in a charity Christmas concert raising money for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.
Choirs from Sherborne Girls and The Gryphon School are preparing to serenade thousands of passengers at a special concert at London Waterloo station on Wednesday.
Volunteers will be collecting donations as the choir sings to commuters and travellers at the station to the accompaniment of a full-sized six foot organ and brass band, who will be playing a selection of traditional and modern carols from 4pm to 7pm.
Verity McLelland, community fundraiser for north Dorset said: “This is such an exciting event and Weldmar feel enormously privileged to be part of it. It will be a wonderful treat for people using the station and a great way to promote the work of the hospice movement to such a large audience.
“Hospice care is often hidden from public view and events like this really help us to raise awareness of the wide variety of work we do whilst also raising much needed funds.”
The event has been organised by Chris Loder from the South West Trains – Network Rail Alliance. Chris said: “We are delighted to be able to support this event by providing complimentary transport for the children coming to Waterloo station to sing.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the choir and Weldmar’s supporters to the station and hope they will raise lots of money for this worthy cause.”
