A WORLD leading scientist visited Portland pupils on a recent visit to the island.
Isle of Portland Aldridge Community Academy opened its doors to Edward Osbourne Wilson.
The Harvard University lecturer hosted an afternoon and evening lecture at the Portland Academy and was keen to praise the school’s ongoing support of the MEMO project.
Students were treated with the opportunity to listen to the scientist’s views on humans and the natural world, their place in the biosphere and what the future may hold.
IPACA science teacher, Jon Smith, said: “Edward Wilson is such an important figure on the global stage that Bournemouth and Southampton University contacted IPACA and asked for the opportunity to allow a selected number of their university students and lecturers to come and hear him speak.
“We were not disappointed “His enthusiasm for education and the natural world will no doubt inspire the next generation judging by the feedback from our students.”
