STUDENTS on Portland have risen to the challenge of a professional baking master class.
Year Eight pupils at the Isle of Portland Aldridge Community Academy got the chance to work with professional baker Joe Whyton.
The students, who are studying food technology, were asked to link what they have been learning in the classroom to the commercial batch-production techniques used by experts in the industry.
Mr Whyton, who works for Morrisons in Weymouth, visited the academy and showed students how to perfect their croissant cooking skills.
The students watched a demonstration before using the new trade secrets they had learned to cook a batch of their own. IPACA brings industry partners in to their design and technology curriculum lessons to help students see the practical relevance of what they are learning and to enhance their skills for the world of work.
Head of design, engineering and technology, Chris Newman, said: “As well as supporting workplace skills, this learning also gives the knowledge and background needed to be successful in their GCSE and A Level courses “We are always interested to hear from designers, engineers and technologists who would like to share their experience and skills with our students”
