STUDENTS at Budmouth College worked with teachers to look at getting the best out of the school.
Student Leaders from years 8, 9 and 11 at the Weymouth college united to take part in its Annual Student Conference which was held at their Sixth Form Cafe.
The aim of the day was to provide the opportunity for pupils to share ideas and learn how to think strategically.
This year's focus was 'Getting the best out of Budmouth' which prompted discussion about how effectively teachers give feedback and methods to improve the quality of homework tasks set.
The agenda was created by Budmouth's Teaching for Effective Learning Team, a dedicated group of teachers who work relentlessly to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
David Akers, Budmouth College Principal said: “The outstanding quality of teaching and learning was an observation at our meeting last year and student concerns are largely influential in how we improve our standards.
“We even utilise new ideas during staff training days. I am so proud of the students who remained focused and gave eloquent, mature responses.”
Organiser and Director of Learning Gareth Biddle said: “In the last academic year we made a great effort to make our staff training more student-centred. This, our second student conference, sets the tone for student voice to remain at the heart of what we do to keep developing our practice in ways that represent the way students think and learn.”
Sophie Warwick from year 11 said: “It felt like a real, grown up conference. We had to sign in upon arrival and were given refreshments during our break. It was very insightful and I felt my opinions mattered.”
