DORSET students were celebrated with an awards day at Yeovil College.
More than 300 students, staff and teachers attended the awards events to celebrate the achievements of more than 70 full and part-time students studying a variety of courses.
Awards for outstanding achievement in each of the College’s academic areas were presented along with prizes for personal achievement and voluntary work. Fifteen awards went to Sports, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy students who had represented Yeovil College at county, regional, national and international competitions.
The award for Beauty Therapist of the Year went to Rebekah Ford, 18, from Dorchester, who took part in the WorldSkills challenge.
Other Dorset winners included: George Pinkawa, 17, from Sherborne, who received an award for Dedication and Achievement, Anita Yip, 19, from Gillingham won the Outstanding Achievement in Art and Design award, Kelly Coombes, 16, from Sherborne received an award for Outstanding Contribution to the College, Hayley Bolt, 39, from Sherborne was named Hairdresser of the Year and the Stephanie Pirongs Award for Personal Achievement was received by Edmund Lee, 21, from Mere.
Addressing the winners at the awards night, Yeovil College Principal John Evans said: “As these awards show, not only does Yeovil College boast a supportive and student-focussed teaching staff, our students represent some of the most talented, hardworking and inspirational I’ve ever met.”
