STUDENTS from Weymouth College went on a study visit to Majorca.

As part of their two-year course in BTEC Travel and Tourism Year One students went to C’an Pastilla, on the island.

The students had to plan and participate in all travel arrangements and activities.

Planning for the trip began in February when each student was allocated a section of the itinerary, which included day-trips to popular tourist destinations such as the Caves of Drach, Kathmandu Theme Park and the beach resort of Magaluf.

The students were responsible for booking activities and arranging daily travel to and from their base in C’an Pastilla, near the capital Palma. They also had a workshop from local Thomas Cook resort representatives.

Abigail Maynard, 17, from Weymouth, said: “The overseas element of the course has really made our class closer and our final year together will be great because of the trip.”

Now back in the classroom, the students have to complete a full evaluation of the trip for the travel company.

Travel and Tourism lecturer Janine Hodson, who accompanied the students said: “Students really benefit from residential study visits, which help develop their leadership and teambuilding skills and providing an insight into the travel and tourism industry.”
