THE coastguard has issued a warning after a member of the public picked up a grenade they found on a beach.
Portland Coastguard received a report that a member of the public had handed in a smoke grenade they had found on the shoreline at Poole at around midday yesterday.
A Royal Corp Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit and officers from Poole Coastguard were sent to the beach office at Sandbanks and the item was removed.
A spokesman for Portland Coastguard said: “Members of the public who find any suspected explosive items should not touch the item, but should report it immediately to the coastguard if it's on the shoreline or to the police if it's found inland.”
