Ian Bruce is correct. (Echo, Oct 5) The proposed works along Preston Road are a waste of money. They are spending for spending sake.
If there is surplus cash, in this dreadful recession we are suffering, it should be returned to the public pot.
However, we all know that the first thing council officials are taught is to make sure they spend every last penny of their budget, even if it does not need to be spent, to ensure they get the largest possible allocation in future years.
Of course, the additional incentive for this piece of spending is that it will assist the doomed park and ride scheme which, along with the abolition of more and more town centre parking, is accelerating the decline of Weymouth town centre.
