I would like to let you know of the wonderful people I have met for the first time today.
I am now a resident at the growing Poundbury complex but was born in Dorchester many years ago. I have to use a mobile four wheeler to get around.
My home is close to the Monkeys Jump roundabout, as the Olympic torch was passing this point I decided to go and see it.
But because there were no dropped pavement curbs I was unable to cross the road.
A young lady named Laura, who told me she was a news reporter for the Echo, realised my problem.
She quickly gathered others to my aid and grabbing a wheel herself, they lifted my heavy mobile across the road where I could watch. All this was done for me, on a wet, miserable afternoon but everyone was smiling and laughing.
My thanks to all those who so willingly helped.
It is a moment I will remember – that aid, unasked for and so quickly given.
