So finally the organisers of the Olympics have conceded that they have messed up.

They thought lots of people would come to Weymouth to enjoy the Olympics, so they decided to create an extortionate park and ride system that was never going to make people use it at the price.

I was wondering if any thought went into this at all except, of course, ‘How much money can we make?’ Of course it would be too much to ask for our council to ever do anything for the local people. Why could they not have given us parking concessions?

All they had to do was send a car sticker in the post to all DT postcodes, (that’s the council tax payers), with an Olympic 2012 emblem on it and they could use the inner town car parks and the visitors would use the other ones.

The council has never made the locals part of this occasion, more an obstacle to get round, and they then wonder why people are not coming into town.

They also knew money for people was short, so what did they do? They put up prices.

Businesses are moaning that they are not as busy as predicted, but that is what happens when you get greedy.

The ones that have stuck to the spirit of the Games are suffering because of the greedy ones.

Of course, you need customers to be busy. I really wish this had been a success, and not the shambles it has turned into.

All of this was predictable though with a little forethought from our very own council geniuses, did they really think the prices they came up with would draw people in? Get real, guys.

Lastly and probably the saddest part of all this, is the legacy the Games have left us.

What happens next year when all those people who normally come to Weymouth have gone elsewhere, for the little summer sun they can get, found it cheaper or easier to get around or just glad for the change – will they come back?
