YESTERDAY the Weymouth Bayside Festival collapsed financially due to the lack of visitors.
This was clearly caused by the publicity of the local council and their officers who made it clear that there would be traffic chaos, the trains said they couldn’t cope and the council upped the park and ride to £14.50 – so it was quieter than a normal day in winter.
Thus my company providing entertainment within the festival is left short of a substantial amount of money, and we have had to cancel a number of young extreme sports entertainers and coaches as a result for the rest of the period.
Those who have performed are paid by us anyway – we honour our commitments.
All I want is the people (the real persons involved) who took all these decisions to resign, whether LOCOG, ODA, local council, and various chairmen – all of whom were told they had it wrong two years ago.
But as with all government and local government employees on public money, they haven’t the guts if they get it wrong – they hide behind bureaucracy.
I just want them to go and take on a cleaner’s job if they can get one (tough on cleaners, so I’ll withdraw that).
There are no excuses; I would be even more disgusted if they tried.
Tarnished gold and I am sorry for the competitors as they are working hard at the limits for their achievement.
But for many it has been a disaster and no one should be proud of what this has done to hundreds of traders and ‘ordinary’ people at their cost.
