I am one of the volunteer ambassadors welcoming people to Weymouth, but I am responding in a personal capacity to your headline “So Where is Everybody?”.
I was in South Africa in late January when I read in my British Guardian Weymouth councillor John Birtwhistle’s letter in which he sought to rubbish the coming of the Olympics to our town when it was already a done deal.
I also read another letter in the national press a couple of weeks ago which stated that Weymouth would be closed to vehicles altogether from 10.00am to 10.00pm. Those local people, councillors who should support their town, and others who sought to criticise, should have been here in the last few days to share in the sheer enjoyment of greeting our guests worldwide.
Instead they seem to have chosen to continue to indulge in xenophobic carping and are perhaps now satisfied that their predictions have come true.

At the moment if I have to visit Royal Crescent surgery I have to go via Manor Road roundabout, back down Dorchester Road to access the Park District and the reverse to go home.
