So here we are slap bang in the middle of summer and those intelligent traffic lights spring to mind. I cast my mind back to all the months and months of upheaval the road works caused to put these darn lights in.
I remember reading in the Dorset Echo, the traffic will flow during the Olympics , this new system will work once we get over a few early hiccups, no congestion – la de da de da...
Well, I didn’t realise back then that there would be so many road closures, the town bridge included. Weymouth town is traffic free and there is no congestion at the Asda lights.
This, of course, has nothing to do with intelligent lights but is due to no one being able to drive into town between the hours of 10am and 10pm.
So please don’t pat yourself on the backs Weymouth and Portland and county councils and say: ‘We did it – the new lights coped with the flow of traffic’.
They didn’t – there is hardly any traffic for them to cope with.
Rather a waste of time and money putting them in in the first place, wasn’t it? You should have left the roundabouts knowing Weymouth town centre would be traffic free during the Olympics.
Oh and whilst I am here, what’s with all the added yellow lines on the pavements, especially outside of Wilkinsons, is this also Olympic related?
