THE father of a Weymouth teenager who sent abusive messages to Olympian Tom Daley has apologised for his son’s actions.

Norman Messer’s son Reece, 17, used Twitter to tell the diver that he had let down his dad, who died of a brain tumour last year.

He also made a threat and sent other hurtful comments.

Reece, who lives in a Weymouth bedsit and suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), was given a harassment warning after being arrested.

He has also been bailed to return to Weymouth Police Station at a later date while officers investigate other communications on his Twitter account.

Norman Messer, of Bournemouth said he was “disgusted” with his son’s actions and blamed it on his condition.

He said: “He’s done it for the attention.

“He gets a buzz on attention and I just feel apologetic.”

Mr Messer, who has 11 children and has been married four times, lives with his 22-year-old wife Lisa.

He said Reece lived in Bournemouth when he was younger. He blamed social services for moving Reece around the county and said his son should get proper support to manage his condition.

A spokesman for Dorset County Council said: “We always value the opportunity to work with parents or carers, and work hard to support them in meeting the needs of children across Dorset.”
