A POPULAR Weymouth businessman was found dead in his hotel room following a night out with friends, an inquest was told.
Keith Allan Fulbrook, 49, was the former managing director of Advance Sheet Metal Ltd (ASM), which closed in 2010, and spent much of his time in Thailand.
An inquest into his death at County Hall in Dorchester was told on January 2 Mr Fulbrook, of Leamington Road, Weymouth, had spent the evening socialising with friends and later checked into a hotel.
When staff from the hotel went to wake him at 6am the following morning he was found to be dead.
A post mortem report from Thailand stated that there was no sign of external injuries to Mr Fulbrook.
Toxicological tests revealed the presence of alcohol in his system at a level twice the UK drink drive limit as well as traces of morphine and cocaine.
West Dorset Coroner Michael Johnston said: “The levels of morphine and cocaine were not assessed.”
The post mortem report concluded that the cause of Mr Fulbrook’s death was ‘failure of the cardiovascular system due to the mixing of various drugs with alcohol’ and Mr Johnston said he had no reason to doubt that.
The coroner added: “The effects of alcohol and the additional effects of morphine and cocaine are cumulative in the body and they all act in order to depress the heart and breathing system. So the presence of morphine and cocaine, even if these were present at non lethal levels, would exaggerate the effect of the alcohol and vice versa.”
Mr Johnston said there was no evidence available to indicate how or when the drugs had got into Mr Fulbrook’s system as he recorded an open verdict.
Following his death Mr Fulbrook, who has three daughters with ex-wife Michelle and a five-year-old daughter with partner Yo, was described by his family as a doting dad who could light up a room.
