EMOTIONS ran high for staff and schoolchildren on the last day of term at one Weymouth school.
Conifers Primary School said a final goodbye to its longest serving member of staff after 37 years of teaching. Jan Griffiths, 60, of Martinstown near Dorchester , said she had ‘mixed feelings’ about retiring and would really miss all of the children and staff.
The final day of teaching also saw the dedicated teacher say goodbye to her last Year Six class before they move on to secondary school.
She said: “I have mixed feelings about leaving.
“I’m really sad to leave and will miss all the children and staff. I have many precious memories.”
It comes after Conifers has been named a ‘good’ school in its latest Ofsted report thanks to good teaching and an interesting curriculum.
Miss Griffiths, who has also served as assistant head teacher, and other staff said they are pleased that at long last the school has been recognised.
The report marks Conifers Primary School as ‘good’ in all areas.
Head teacher Rachel Hiscock said: “Jan has helped make the school what it is today.”
