A Dorchester woman took a leap of faith to raise funds for a charity close to her heart.

Emma Waterman, 22, plunged 15,000 feet from a plane in a sponsored skydive to raise money for CLIC Sargent.

The admin assistant at the Dorchester Children’s Centre in Poundbury was inspired by a friend to take on the challenge and ended up raising £600 for the charity.

She said: “My friend had leukaemia as a child and CLIC Sargent really supported their family through all of their treatment.

“For me it was something I wanted to do to raise money for a charity that is really close to both our families’ hearts.

“I just got sent the leaflet and signed up to it straight away.”

It was Emma’s first ever skydive and, while she admitted to experiencing some nerves before the jump, she enjoyed it so much is may not be her last.

She said: “It was a spur of the moment thing but it was pretty awesome.

“It was a long wait on the day as I had to be there for 11am and didn’t go up until 5pm.

“But no words can really describe how it felt, it was pretty amazing and I can’t wait to do it again.”

Emma was also pleased with her fundraising total, which she amassed thanks to the generous sponsorship of friends, family and work colleagues.

She said: “We had to raise a minimum of £345 but raised more.”
