PARKING in West Bay is being changed as part of Dorset County Council traffic management scheme – but Bridport Town Council do not want parking on the southern side of West Bay Road to be changed to loading only.
Councillors want short-term parking so that people can go to the shops easily – and not fall foul of over-zealous parking wardens as has happened with the new loading bays in Bridport.
Coun Dave Rickard said shops did not need parking spaces outside them.
He said: “Most shopping is done on foot. Shops don’t need spaces outside.”
He suggested the car park could include short-term spaces.
Coun Philip Colfox disagreed about not needing spaces outside shops.
He was also against loading bays saying that they were open to abuse.
He said he had got a ticket after three minutes in a bay in Bridport.
Councillors voted to ask for short-term street parking rather than loading bays.
