PLAY time had extra excitement when a little boy had to be rescued by firefighters from one of his toys.

Three-year-old Tyler Knight was playing with a wooden activity box when he decided to place it on his head.

But the toy, which he shares with younger brother Kenzie, became stuck and an emergency call had to be made.

Mum Marie Knight said: “I was making a sandwich and I left him in the lounge for literally five seconds playing with the toy.

“When I came back, it was on his head. He said: ‘Mummy, stuck’.

“I said: ‘Very funny’.

“Then he said: ‘Mummy, stuck’ again. That was it.

“I tried to pull it but it just wasn’t coming off.

“As I was pulling, he was coming with it.”

A retained crew from Portland made their way to the family’s flat in Harding House, Weston, where they unscrewed the box and set Tyler free.

Mrs Knight added: “They had to take the whole thing apart to get him out.

“I don’t know how he managed to get his head stuck in there. I wouldn’t have thought it could even fit.”

A spokesman for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 2.40pm, a retained fire engine from Portland was called to Walker Road to a report of a child with a toy stuck on his head.

“The crew arrived within eight minutes and found there to be a boy who had got a toy stuck on his head.

“The crew unscrewed a panel and lifted it off.”

Little Tyler, who has severe verbal delay and behavioural problems, was featured in the Echo in March after a thief stole his buggy from a shared garage.

Kind-hearted readers rushed to help replace it.

The family has recently moved to Portland and are settling into their new home.

Mrs Knight added: “I’ve told him so many times not to stick things on his head.

“His favourites are saucepans – but maybe this will make him think twice.

“Hopefully talking about it will stop it happening to any other kids, too.”
