Words (almost) fail me in respect of the comments made by some motorists whingeing about the closure of King Street in Weymouth due to the Olympics .
It just goes to show how a large number of drivers simply don’t see what is clearly displayed in front of their eyes.
There have been numerous yellow signs erected (on poles so they are clearly visible, not A-boards at the road side) around the town for many weeks now advising of the closures that will be in place, yet some, including so-called “professional” drivers, claim they were unaware of them.
So just what have they been using their eyes for over the last few weeks while driving around town? I have seen the signs and planned accordingly, as have many of my friends, so why haven’t they?
As for the tourists complaining about the closure of some car parks – HELLO?
Weymouth and Portland is hosting the biggest event that will probably ever happen in Dorset in our lifetime – were they really unaware? Has it not been advertised enough for them?
Does it not occur to them that there will probably be some parking restrictions in this tiny little seaside town?
From the comments of others it appears that even if some information signs had been put up they would have been a total waste of time anyway because, as has been clearly demonstrated, they don’t bother to read signs when they are there.
Does it not occur to them that some roads might be closed as a result of the influx of tens of thousands of visitors?
Or is it yet another example of the modern thinking – that being if something does not go the way they expect it, someone else must be to blame. Oh give me strength.
