As I joined the Dorchester bypass today after travelling from the Broadmayne direction I was surprised to see one of the Olympic Park and Ride options directing traffic to Kingston Maur-ward.
I can only imagine that whoever considered that route to be a good idea has never attempted to turn right onto the bypass at this junction – which has got to be one of the most difficult and dangerous right-hand turns in the county.
To turn right at this junction requires enormous patience when the road is fairly busy in both directions (which is much of the time).
Tailbacks occur if a single articulated truck is stuck trying to turn right onto the A35.
This can result in others becoming impatient when it’s their turn to join the road.
I’ve seen enough near misses since this road was built – some of them quite frightening.
I’m sure an expert could quote official statistics ‘proving’ how safe the junction is but no amount of statistics would convince me that turning right should be allowed here.
I doubt this junction would ever get a roundabout and it’s highly unlikely to get traffic lights.
It’s also unlikely we’ll see a ‘No Right Turn’ here.
But in the interests of road safety would it be possible for somebody to consider removing the current turn right for Kingston Maurward Olympics Park and Ride, please, and just leave the Monkey’s Jump directions?
