THERE could be some un-ewe-sual outfits on display at this year’s Dorset County Show.

The celebration of the county’s agriculture will include a fancy dress sheep class as one of several novelty classes for children that will be held at the showground from 10am on Sunday, September 2.

There will be classes for under-12s and under-16s, with the handlers also invited to join in the fancy dress fun and frolics. Show Secretary Sam Mackenzie-Green said: “The theme for this year’s show is ‘Sky’s the Limit’ and this class is no exception. “The judges will be on the hunt for the most original costumes for both sheep and handler.”

London College of Fashion graduate and Dorset County Show PR consultant Abigail Perry offered some style tips for the fancy dress show.

She said: “Fascinators are all the rage, particularly given the Duchess of Cambridge’s fascination with them. “Why not fashion one for yourself and your ewe? “You can buy the bases from craft shops and decorate them with anything that takes your fancy. “Ideas taken from the countryside just might sway the judge’s decision. “Cos lettuce leaves, carrot sticks or leafy radishes affixed to the base will make a themed fashion statement. “Or keep colours to red white and blue in support of the Diamond Jubilee. “But whatever you do, make sure ewe have some fun!”

Winners will receive a first prize of £6 and a rosette and there will also be classes for the friendliest lamb or ewe and the woolliest.

As well as the more traditional livestock classes and stalls, the 2012 Dorset County Show, which starts on Saturday, September 1, will also feature petrol-fuelled entertainment from Scott May’s Daredevil Stunt Show and cameraman and naturalist Christian Moullec gliding above the showground accompanied by his flock of flying geese.

Anyone wishing to sign up for the novelty classes must do so by August 1. To enter visit dorsetcountyshow.co.uk
