A SOUTH Korean national sailing coach has been home after being caught drink driving.
Jae-Cheol Lee, 38, who gave his address as the Olympic village on Portland when he appeared before magistrates at Weymouth, was more than two times the legal alcohol limit.
Through an interpreter he admitted driving a MG6 on July 25 when his breath alcohol level was 75 mcg, the legal limit being 35 mcg.
Julian Lawrence, prosecuting, said the car had been seen on the road from Weymouth to Portland around 5am.
Though it was still dark the car’s headlights were not on and the vehicle was veering towards the road’s central white line.
Simon Lacey, defending, said: “The South Korean Olympic committee will take a very serious view of this and he will probably be disqualified as the national coach.”
Magistrates imposed a fine and costs totalling £340 and banned Lee from driving in the UK for 18 months.
Lee Kee-heung, head of the South Korean delegation in London, later convened an emergency disciplinary committee and decided to send the coach back to Seoul.
