A SELF-taught composer from Dorchester has been chosen to herald the Olympic sailing events.
John Wilson, 22, will open the unique project Coastal Voices facing an audience of up to 17,000 people today.
John, pictured below, has been chosen after he created a piece of music inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic sailing events.
His composition, Movement in Blue, aims to symbolise the action and forces of nature behind the sailing events of the 2012 Games.
Former Thomas Hardye pupil Mr Wilson, of Poundbury , said: “I think the Olympics are fantastic, they’re a once in a lifetime opportunity. The fact the sailing events are coming here is incredibly amazing.”
He added: “I am very excited and it will be an experience of a lifetime being involved in the Olympics.”
He added that he feels very proud and he hopes his music will pay justice to the Olympics games.
Proud dad Gary Wilson said: “John has come a long way in his music. He is a most amazing and talented young man and we his family are very proud of him.”
