BELLS were rung across Weymouth and Portland today to mark the official start of London 2012.
Chimes were heard at 8.12am including at Furzy Cliff near Bowleaze close to where where the art project Nowhereisland is moored.
Bells rang everywhere in the UK today including Big Ben in London which chimed non-stop for three minutes.
The initiative aims to set a world record for the largest number of bells to be rung simultaneously.
At 8.12pm two live screens on Weymouth Beach will turn on to the opening celebrations in London that start at 9pm.
Events to tie in with the Cultural Olympiad are going on all day locally.
The Echo will keep you up to date with all Olympic news.
