Many thanks to those who came along to the Guildhall to support my petition to the council to bring back the Esplanade fairy lights – the public gallery at the Guildhall overflowed.
However, I still don’t think the council wants to listen to public opinion.
Councillor John Birtwistle proposed to send the petition to management committee for a decision, and had difficulty finding a seconder.
Even though only 10 of the three dozen councillors bothered to support the motion with the vast majority hiding behind the “parapet” of abstentions, it was passed.
So the battle goes on.
The motion now goes before the management committee whose next meeting is on October 2.
Can I ask all supporters to lobby committee members to enable them to make the correct decision by bringing back our beloved sea front fairy lights.
