A TALENTED young organist will fine tune his talent at a prestigious music school.
Dorchester schoolboy Alexander Henshaw has been offered a scholarship to study organ and percussion at the Wells Cathedral School, one of just specialist music schools in the UK.
The 13-year-old will take up his place at the school in September, after leaving St Osmund’s Middle School in the county town.
His father David Henshaw said Alexander, who has been playing the organ since the age of nine, was offered the rare opportunity after impressing the school with his talent.
He said: “We are not a musical family and we have got no background in music but he was just prodigiously musical.”
Alexander, who began playing the organ at St Mary’s Church in Dorchester, is involved with a number of local bands including the Durnovaria Silver Band and his dad said he would try and return whenever possible to perform locally.
Mr Henshaw said: “He’s got quite a few friends in music here and he wants to keep playing with them.”
Alexander said he was looking forward to starting at his new school and taking his music to the next level. He said: “I’m just looking forward to playing with other really good musicians.
“We’ve had tours there and it looks really good.”
Alexander said his friends are sad to see him leave school but are happy for him.
