• I am still awaiting news of how much the Sutton Poyntz Victorian Fayre raised for charity and will let you know as soon as I hear. In the meantime a lady has contacted me asking for your help. She visited the Fayre on the day, and was very taken by some dining chairs at the ‘Shabby Chic’ stall. She bought them for her daughter, but unfortunately there were only three of them, as one had been sold just minutes before she arrived. She has sent me a picture of the chair which she would very much like to purchase to complete the set. If you bought the chair, or know someone who did, then contact Karen on 07712 112220.
• Still on the subject of Sutton Poyntz, the scarecrows have emerged from their hiding places and are on display in all their glory. The theme this year is, as you might expect, the Olympics, but there are some very novel twists indeed on this subject. As you can see, the pond is the venue for the Synchronised Swimming competition, but there is another very clever and amusing entry in the same vein, but I won’t spoil the surprise by telling you what it is. It also wouldn’t be complete without a mention of the Tour de France, and Wiggo in his yellow jersey makes a special appearance! You can view all the entries up until Saturday 4 August and can also vote for your gold, silver and bronze favourites by picking up a voting slip from the Springhead Pub. The winner will be announced at the Vegetable Show on the Saturday. A scarecrow seeking walk around this picturesque village is a marvellous outing for all the family, so why not come along?
• There has been some comment on the electronic bus indicators that have been installed at most of our local bus stops. Just after the recent bad weather a reader decided to catch the X53 to Dorchester and waited, with other people, at the Chalbury Corner bus stop. The bus was late, but definitely coming because the electronic indicator was showing it as being on schedule. On schedule that is until the X53 bus driver going the other way called over to the queue to say that because the flooding was causing delays, the X53 was going straight up Dorchester Road and not coming through Preston at all. Now what on earth is the point of these displays if they don’t show useful up-to-date information?
