A WEYMOUTH school is celebrating its latest Ofsted report thanks to good teaching and an interesting curriculum.

The report marks Conifers Primary School as ‘good’ in all areas including pupils’ achievement, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management.

Proud staff said they are pleased that at long last Conifers Primary has been recognised as a good school.

Inspectors said the school is not outstanding because of ‘inconsistencies in teaching which prevent achievement being better than good’.

They suggested the school should increase outstanding teaching by ensuring that expectations of pupils’ learning are always high, tasks are always challenging and matched to pupils’ needs and learning and that lessons proceed at a good pace.

The school is also encouraged to take steps to strengthen the engagement with a small minority of parents whose children have low attendance.

Inspectors praised the strong leadership of headteacher Rachel Hiscock, who is well supported by her deputy and key leaders and this has led to improvements in achievement and teaching.

Mrs Hiscock said: “I am delighted that at long last the school has been recognised as a good school and would like to thank hard-working staff and governors for their support and commitment to improvement but, most importantly, the children, who are the heart of everything we do.”

The report praised pupils’ positive attitudes to learning and their “good” behaviour as well as attitudes and behaviour frequently being “outstanding” in lessons.
