DORSET County Show organisers are expecting a bumper turn-out at this year’s event after impressive early ticket sales.
The celebration of the county’s agriculture is looking to attract more people than last year and reach the 60,000 mark.
Show secretary Sam Mackenzie-Green said the target was very realistic.
She said: “This is not a pie in the sky figure’. “It is a figure that we have arrived at based on our most up to date data and research into how other shows in the south west have fared.
“Freezing our advance ticket sales price since 2006 is a definite winner. “Each year we offer more and more in terms of show entertainment and yet we are still holding prices. “The strategy continues to reap rewards – advance ticket sales are already up 20 per cent on last year.”
It is not just the public that are showing an interest in the event, which this year will have a sporting theme and feature performances from the likes of Scott May’s Daredevil Stunt Show.
Traders and livestock owners have also been getting in early to secure their spots.
Mrs Mackenzie-Green said: “Trade stands are selling like hot cakes too. “There are a number of issues that put the Dorset County Show at an advantage, this year in particular.
“Many shows have been cancelled because of the weather, leaving a huge amount of unsold stock. “Being one of the last shows on the circuit, we are fortunate enough to be able to provide an outlet for those who need to shift their stock by the end of the season. “Bookings are already up by eight per cent on last year.”
The show, which has been running since 1841, also provides an opportunity for local producers to showcase their wares in the ever-popular Dorset Food Hall.
Mrs Mackenzie Green said: “The local food element is always a big draw. Despite the recession, we believe visitors still value genuine provenance in the food sector and the Food Hall this year will definitely not disappoint. “But Dorset producers need to hurry – as of today, we only have two spaces left.”
