Dorset County Council has been rebuked by the Local Government Ombudsman for taking too long to settle two complaints.
In the Ombudsman’s annual review, it expresses ‘some concern’ about two cases in which Dorset County Council delayed carrying out their recommendations.
The review states: “In one case, the council failed to implement the recommendations of its own stage two report for more than nine months and in another the council failed to implement the settlement agreed after our investigation.
“In both cases, the complainant should not have had to come to me to resolve the complaint and my recommendations reflected this.”
The Ombudsman received 44 complaints about Dorset County Council between April 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012.
In 14 of these cases, they gave advice to the complainants while nine complaints were deemed premature.
The Ombudsman’s investigative team considered 19 complaints and found that in 12 cases, there was no fault or the council had already resolved the complaint.
In the other seven complaints, the council agreed to the Ombudsman’s recommendations.
