PUPILS at Bovington First School are flying a flag to celebrate receiving a coveted Eco- Schools award.
The school has had a busy year, working hard to achieve bronze and silver eco awards as well as two larger awards: coming second in the national Carbon Trust Awards and now the Green Flag award.
The young pupils have been working collectively to make the school more environmentally friendly, going above and beyond to embrace what it means to be an eco school.
Local MP Richard Drax joined in the school celebrations and helped head teacher Juliet Muir to raise the flag in front of the delighted pupils.
Deputy headteacher Victoria Humphrys said: “It was really amazing to see how they’ve worked together. It has been a team effort where the children have created action plans on their own and got the teachers on board to change their school.
“The children have been so involved with the whole thing and learn about being eco friendly from the tender age of four.
“They really believe in it which is so inspiring.”
Victoria also said that it was ‘wonderful’ for the children to receive the Green Flag in recognition for their hard work.
She would also like to thank the school caretaker Mr Kurshaw and eco co-ordinator Lisa Cooper who are both central to the Eco School Code.
