PAINTINGS by a popular Dorset artist are going on show in the name of charity.
An exhibition of the works by the late Chris Jonzen is going on display at the Palmer’s Brewery in Bridport tomorrow.
The display will feature 22 works from the private collection from Mr Jonzen’s family, with the paintings also on sale and all money raised from the event going to the RNLI.
Mr Jonzen was the younger brother of the internationally renowned Bazil Jonzen, whose wife Karin was also a famous sculptor.
His artistic efforts were thwarted early in life by his father’s ambition for him to enter the business world but, when he and wife Daphne moved to Weymouth and opened the Sea Cow bistro on the harbourside in 1969 his creative talent began to flourish.
Daughter Jeannie said: “Chris’s artistry was all over the Sea Cow restaurant, from the décor to the logo, the look of the menu and his determination to learn the skill of perfectly filleting fish.”
Mr Jonzen’s family said they decided to sell the paintings ‘because we wanted people from the county which gave Chris so much joy to have the chance to own something by one of its great characters’.
The Chris Jonzen Exhibition and Sale will be held at the Palmer’s Brewery wine showroom in Bridport tomorrow from 7pm to 9pm.
