The Race

AN ARTIST has been filming in The Race off Portland Bill to try and capture the unruly mass of waves on camera.

Simon Ryder will combine real-life footage with a 3D light detection and ranging (LIDAR) scan to create a ‘fly through’ of the data he amasses. An exhibit will be taking place during the Olympic and Paralympic Games at the ‘Beacon of Culture’ that is the National Coastwatch building on Portland .

Mr Ryder said: “I am trying to make The Race real.

“I am bringing the science to life through the field trip.

“Getting wet, being seasick, it’s the human side of capturing data.”

Artists Alice Angus, Mat Chivers, Zachary Eastwood-Bloom and Simon Callery are also working on ExLab, a London 2012 Festival project that involves the National Trust, which aims to connect people’s imaginations with stories of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.
