Dorset Police will refer to an independent watchdog after two bodies went undiscovered for more than a week following a landslide.
The bodies of Rosemary Snell, of Misterton, Somerset and Michael Rolfe were recovered ten days after their car was caught in the Beaminster Tunnel.
Dorset Police made a voluntary referral to the Independent Police Complaints Commission following the grisly discovery on Monday.
In a tweet, the IPCC said: "Dorset Police will be referring the Beaminster tunnel landslip deaths.
"This will be assessed and a decision made about the mode of investigation."
