A FRIEND of a Dorchester pensioner is appealing to spectators of this year’s Olympic Torch Relay through Winfrith to contribute photographs to a special album.
Dave Seabright, who accompanied former 1948 torchbearer Alfred Barrett to the event last Friday, said they watched the spectacle from outside the village Post Office.
Retired Dorset Police superintendent Mr Barrett, aged 91, ran an Olympic relay leg at Shaftesbury in 1948 while he was stationed at Bridport as a young copper.
Mr Seabright said: “The intention was that Colin Fry, a retired Dorset Chief Inspector, who was running the leg at Winfrith would pause briefly for a photo opportunity with Alf, Colin with his burning torch, and Alf with his treasured torch from 1948.
“This is exactly what happened, and a large number of spectators took photographs before, during and after the meeting.
“Alf does not have access to a computer and I am in the process of making up a photograph album for him as a memory of his big day.”
He added: “If any of Dorset Echo readers have any photographs of the occasion I would be delighted to receive them.”
Anyone with pictures of Mr Barrett at the celebration are asked to email them to Mr Seabright via wickanddave@btinternet.com.
