WEYMOUTH’S 2012 Carnival is promising to be bigger and better than before as events and sponsors continue to get on board.
Synergy Housing is among the first firms to sign up and pledge support for the extravaganza on Wednesday, August 15.
Plans are steaming ahead for the carnival which will be held just a few days after the Olympic Games closing ceremony. A day of family fun is in store and it is hoped to raise thousands for local charities.
The Red Arrows won’t be performing this year but organisers have lined up the Aerostars, an aerobatic formation display team consisting of six planes.
Synergy is one of the largest property management and development organisations in the South West, managing thousands of properties across the region. That includes homes in the borough which were part of Weymouth and Portland Housing.
Sponsorship for the carnival, particularly the grand procession which is the highlight of the day’s events featuring scores of decorated floats, marching bands and walking entries, comes from Synergy Housing’s Local Neighbourhood Panels.
The panels provide residents with an opportunity to have their say about their area.
A Synergy spokesman said: “Synergy Housing’s neighbourhood panels support a number of community projects and are proud to be able to offer support to the biggest community event of the year, the Weymouth Carnival.
“Events that bring communities together and help build on community spirit is paramount to building better communities which is the main aim of the neighbourhood panel with support from Synergy Housing.”
Synergy Housing Community Development Officer Angie Gould added: “This is such an exciting time for everyone involved.
“Synergy Housing is pleased to be able to support the Weymouth Carnival; the carnival is an important event and we want to encourage local residents and the local community to celebrate together and showcase the community spirit in Weymouth.”
Weymouth Carnival 2012 chairman Roger Hogbin said: “We are absolutely delighted that Synergy Housing has decided to support the carnival.
“Synergy looks after the homes of a number of Weymouth residents and it’s good to know that the company is behind the town’s premier annual event during a year when we are also preparing to welcome many visitors for the Olympics.”
