THE WET weather has forced an animal rescue charity to postpone a major fundraising event.
Margaret Green Animal Rescue was due to hosts its dog show and fun day at its centre at Church Knowle near Wareham on Sunday, July 22.
However, due to waterlogged fields the charity has had to call off the event and will now reschedule for later in the year.
The dog show – which is accompanied by dozens of stalls as well as entertainment, demonstrations and competitions – normally attracts thousands of visitors and brings in vital funds for Dorset’s largest animal rescue charity.
Trustee Matt Devereux said: “Having to cancel our dog show and fun day is very frustrating for us as it is our biggest event of the year and brings in much-needed funds for our rescue animals.
“We cannot go ahead with the fields as they are though as it is not safe for vehicles to be parked there. Of course this makes it unsafe public access.
“We will reschedule the event for later in the year and apologise to our supporters, who we know were looking forward to it as much as we were.”
