Whilst standing in the pouring rain with a neighbour awaiting the Olympic Torch to come through Portesham on July 12, one of the processional police outriders stopped immediately in front of us.
He told us that he had been all around the country with the convoy. He went on to tell us how pleasantly surprised he was when he turned the corner into Portesham.
He said he thought Portesham residents had made a real effort with respect to the turn out and that Portesham was one of the prettiest villages he had passed through.
Due to ill health I was not able personally to contribute to the decorating and presentation of the village, but I must say well done to everybody who made such a tremendous effort to make Portesham so attractive and to hear such unsolicited compliments from the well travelled convoy policeman.
Mrs T Green Portesham
