A FORMER soldier collapsed in hospital just minutes after being told he was fit to be discharged, a coroner has heard.
The inquest into the death of Gerald Raymond Hallowell, 57, was heard at County Hall in Dorchester.
West Dorset Coroner Michael Johnston recorded the cause of death as a haematoma caused by a fractured skull, which occurred after Mr Hallowell suffered a fit and fell to the floor.
Mr Johnston said Mr Hallowell, who lived in Wool, had been diagnosed with epilepsy in 1997.
He added: “He was in hospital because of other problems and had just been examined by a doctor and found to be fit to be discharged when he collapsed.”
Mr Hallowell was admitted to hospital on March 21.
He died on March 23.
Mr Johnston said: “I believe what happened was the result of an accidental collapse and record he died as a result of that accident.”
