A GOOD time was had by all at Puddletown Carnival.
A host of activities took place in the run-up to the main carnival day and procession on Saturday including a sponsored walk, bingo and duck race.
Peter Casemore, who helped with the organisation, said: “It went very well, it could have been a little bit more sunny but the weather was OK.
“The tug of war was in the wet but they seemed to enjoy it anyway and we had six teams competing in it.
“Everyone had a lot of fun with lots of people and hopefully raised a lot of cash.
“We had a good procession with tractors and all sorts of floats, a marching band and twirlers dancing.
“It was a really good day.”
Carnival Queen Melanie Rolls, 32, was joined at the head of the procession by Princesses Lily McIntosh, seven, and Ebony McIntyre, eight, as well as the winning Prince Harvey Knott.
The event saw the traditional rubber duck race go ahead and Saturday’s events kicked off with the popular dog show.
The procession included Portland’s Second Edition majorettes and tractor trailer carnival floats.
Among the floats were Greek warriors, lions, beach bums and children from Puddletown Pre-School dressed up as Egyptians. Arena displays included Sue Buxton’s Rescue Dogs on Leads dog show, performances from Hot Steps dance school, Portland Second Edition Majorettes, Silver Diamond Majorettes, and live music from Milly and the Peeps, Matt Taylor and Kier Over the years Puddletown Carnival has raised thousands of pounds and this year it was collecting funds to help start up a youth club in the village.
Sharlene Lewis, who is in her first year as carnival chairman, said: “This year all the money we raise is going towards the youth club in the village because the youth of Puddletown haven’t got anything. We thought if we put it all towards the youth club it would be money well spent.”
On Friday, there was a warm-up event at the Recreation Ground in the evening before the main event and procession the following day.
