Here in the county town of Dorchester it was a joy to see the Union Flags flying from specially installed brackets along High East Street and High West Street in time to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Many local businesses added to the eye-catching effect.
Then last weekend many of these flags were replaced by those representing the countries taking part in the Olympic Games.
These were to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay, which came through Dorchester today, Thursday, July 12.
I was so impressed earlier this morning to see a member of BID, ably assisted by a former Mayoress, carefully unfurling the flags, which were not able to fly freely because of the adverse weather we have been experiencing.
Well done all those involved in this special display.
You have done our county town proud.
Thank you.
Kathleen Shipley, High West Street, Dorchester
