I have been advised to email you regarding my growing concern over the Harbour Junction by Asda. I live in Corscombe Close situated on the harbour so am often using the junction myself, whether it be in my car or as a pedestrian.
The junction is in no way clear and I have seen many ‘near misses’, especially from vehicles turning into Asda from Westway road and those coming down Boot hill.
While waiting at the junction from any of its four exits I am continually checking where it is I’m meant to go, or wait. I am also aware while using the junction that if us locals are finding it difficult to understand the complexity of it, what do we expect of our tourists?
I have no confidence while using this junction. Even if I am aware of where I am supposed to be headed, I am aware others are confused. They have nearly collided with other vehicles and myself even though I am using the junction correctly.
What will it take to make this junction safe? A nasty accident? A life? It has been confirmed there have been many minor accidents on the junction. Will it take something more serious?
As you are aware Weymouth will be filled with tourists from all around the world for the Olympic sailing? Will they understand the ridiculous complexity of this junction? Will an accident occur because someone doesn’t understand? Like the majority of us.
Robin Ross, Corscombe Close, Weymouth
