TEAM GB will be joined in action by ‘Team JB’ at the Olympics after a Dorchester woman was appointed a team leader for the Weymouth and Portland Ambassadors.
Joss Baker has been chosen to head up a team of volunteers to greet the influx of visitors to the borough’s Olympic sailing events and she cannot wait for the challenge.
Her warm up will begin tonight when she volunteers during the official Olympic Torch Relay evening celebration on Weymouth Beach.
She said: “This is a once in a lifetime thing and it’s a fantastic way of meeting people from all over the world on one place.
“The atmosphere will be out of this world.”
Volunteering is nothing new for Joss, who works for Midwest Radio in Yeovil and is also a registered carer.
Her past charitable efforts have seen her take on the London Marathon three times, trek the Great Wall of China and walk over hot coals.
She said: “I like to be able to help people and give my time, I’ve always done it, and I’m a people person.”
Joss, 57, said she hoped to be able to use her local knowledge to help visitors.
She said: “I want to make sure people from all walks of life leave knowing they want to come back to this area.”
Joss applied to become an ambassador last year.
