HEARTLESS thieves stole a guest book, cash and wedding gifts worth £2,000 from a wedding hit by floods.

Happy couple Nicky Patrick and Kerry Simmance, both 27, celebrated their big day surrounded by family and friends at St Andrews Church, Preston, before moving on to the reception at Lorton House in Broadway.

The wedding was hit by bad weather on Saturday and as flood water threatened the marquee guests and family dug trenches to divert the water.

Guests left cards, cash and gift cards in a 1950s suitcase but as a generator died as the party wound down at 2.30am on Sunday morning the suitcase was left at the venue in the confusion.

The theft wasn’t discovered until Monday morning as the family believed someone had taken the cards for safe-keeping and just left the suitcase.

Father-of-the-bride John Simmance, from London, appealed for anyone who had information about the cards to get in touch with Dorset Police.

He said: “Maybe the Dorset Echo readers may have noticed something, maybe the cards in a bin. It's the cards we really want.”

Mr Simmance said that despite the weather everyone had really pulled together and he thanked the people of Weymouth who made the day so special. He thanked the marquee and catering staff who worked in the wet conditions, Weymouth florist Fiona Penny and the taxi drivers.

He said that despite the weather everyone had a fantastic weekend, but that they just wanted help to get the wedding cards and guest book back.

Dorset Police are investigating the theft and anyone with information about the cards or who saw anything suspicious should call Dorset Police on 101.
