I am putting pen to paper after Saturday’s downpour, which led to severe flooding in and around Bridport.
I am sorry about the charter fair, which had been reallocated to the town hall due to extreme weather conditions. I know that Francis Mackenzie and her team had worked hard with town council staff on this event.
To the residents who had suffered flooding if I can help please contact me on 01308 456454.
Well done to the emergency services: the police, Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, South West Ambulance, the Environment Agency, West Dorset District Council workers including the harbour master and team, Bridport Town Council, officers and workers, Dorset County Council workers, officers and Emergency Planning including Highways, Bridport Community hospital including MIU dept, Wessex Water, the voluntary sector, such as the St John Ambulance and finally the community who pulled together to help neighbours.
It shows that when a situation such as this occurs, everyone works together.
Just one final note, it just goes to show why we must not build on a flood plain.
Karl Wallace County Councillor
