After all the upheavals while our so called wonderful new traffic system in Weymouth has been put in place, it really beggers belief that Dorset County Council paid nearly half a million in extra agency costs to achieve a complete mess. I suppose they can blame them now and not staff.
I can’t imagine that anyone who has to use this new system thinks it is an improvement. Yes, there were traffic hold-ups, but the roundabouts were far more efficient than the intelligent traffic lights and the very confusing junctions we now have to put up with. When the scheme was proposed we wrote to the appropriate committee to point out the stupidity of no left turns at the Rodwell Road/Wyke Road and Chickerell Road junctions, to no effect. What we didn’t realise was that it would be even worse when the mini roundabout at the top of Boot Hill was also removed and extra traffic lights put in place.
Now all the traffic on the Olympic route, including buses, gets held up all the time and queues form from Buxton Road into town and coming up Boot Hill in the opposite direction after negotiating the Kamikaze/Asda junction. Wyke Road has become a good route if people have a choice.
When is Dorset County Council going to conduct a thorough assessment, admit their mistakes and rectify them? I think we all know the answer to that.
