FROM Saturday’s Elm Tree Garden Party – then the Benefice Picnic and service, with the Bishop of Sherborne preaching, at St Catherine’s (another very British do, ending in strong wind & rain!) - then on Monday evening the Beacon was a BLAZING success – huge thanks to Judy (for inspiration & drive) - Robert (for a beautiful beacon) – Andy & Dawn (for allowing it, preparing the site & LIGHTING the way) – and everyone who raised the money and participated!
THEN the Tuesday Street Party – very novel but still great fun - in 2 marquees! (due to intemperate British weather – many thanks to Hilary & Tim for the 2nd one) – so much food, the decorations (put up, taken down, put up!) all the planning, the production lines, then all the clearing up. What can we say but "THANK YOU" to the Village Hall Committee & far too many people to mention, but you know who you are, so an immense pat on the back & bless you all!
JUDY says how grateful she is to everyone who was involved in both The Beacon project--including of course Mr Cropper for letting us have it on Higher Farm, and the Jubilee Decorations--particularly when we had to do the latter, twice! Also for clearing the bunting etc away afterwards .The last being just as important as the putting up - the village is tidy again. THANK YOU.
MONDAY, 11TH JUNE : Village Hall AGM at 7.30pm, in the hall. This is VERY important to ALL villagers as the Hall is such an integral part of our life. The Committee do a magnificent job on our behalf, this is our chance to show support, find out future plans, ask questions etc.
It is VERY disheartening when no one comes, apart from the committee – I KNOW, I WAS ON IT FOR YEARS !
TUESDAY, 12TH JUNE is Village Club at 7.30pm: The speaker, Robin Miller, on the subject of “Volcanoes” spent his early years in Langton Herring, living with his Mother & Grandparents, in the lower of the two Hillside Cottages, next to what was then the Post Office.
Moved to live in Weymouth in 1946, then spent 34 years with the British Army, 11 years overseas and travelled to 25 countries, retired to Shaftesbury in 2006 & now raises funds for many Service and civilian UK charities by giving presentations.
Do come and join us, visitors £2.00, refreshments available.
WEDNESDAY, 13TH JUNE at 7.00pm at the Village Hall, is a Fete meeting for stall holders and anyone interested in helping. Come along and get all the info, ask your questions – the Jubilee’s over it’s now time to think FETE! July 21st will be here in no time.
