RESIDENTS of Cattistock gathered to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a Street Party.
Despite the weather forecast not being very promising, the organisers decided to continue in true British spirit with their plans to hold the event out of doors. In the end, the rain held off and an excellent time was had by all.
Other events during the day included activities for the children in the playing field, an exhibition of memories and memorabilia, and a ‘Hymns and Pimms’ service.
Maiden Newton at War event is coming up on the weekend of Friday June 22 to Sunday June 24.
In preparation for this, ‘Edith’s Wartime Scrapbook’, a musical journey through the war years, will be performed at 7.15pm on Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16 at Greenford School.
Tickets for this will be available at £3 from the school, local shops or from any committee member.
BROOMHILL Gardens will be open on Wednesday, June 13 between 2 and 5pm.
Apart from having the opportunity to look round the beautiful gardens, you will also be able to buy home made teas and plants.
THE GARDEN at Grove Stall Farm in Chilfrome will be open from 2 to 5pm on Sunday, June 24 by kind permission of David and Sue Orr.
Cream teas will be available, together with a range of plants, cakes, preserves and country produce.
This is a wonderful opportunity to see this fine small country house garden.
Access is by car up the lane from the crossroads in Chilfrome. Alternatively, you can park in the village and walk (about 15 minutes).
All proceeds will go to Holy Trinity Church in Chilfrome.
DORCHESTER Choral Society will be presenting free 40-minute outreach concerts to celebrate the joy of singing.
On Monday June 18 they will be in the village hall at Maiden Newton.
The concert begins at 8pm and everyone is welcome to come along for an evening of sacred and secular music.
CATTISTOCK Poets invite you to an evening of brilliant poetry in the Fox and Hounds at 7.30pm on Tuesday, June 19.
Two of the UK’s leading contemporary poets will be honouring the group with their presence – Rachael Boast, author of Sidereal and winner of the 2011 Forward Prize for the best first collection, and David Briggs, Eric Gregory Award Winner 2002 and author of The Method Men, shortlisted for the 2010 London Fringe New Poetry Award.
The group is led by the remarkable Annie Freud, author of The Mirabelles, shortlisted for the 2010 T S Eliot Prize.
Tickets cost £5 on the door and this includes fabulous food.

CATTISTOCK Church Festival takes place in the village from Friday, June 22 to Sunday, June 24.
There will a flower festival, art exhibition and book sale throughout the weekend between 10am and 6pm.
In addition there will be a concert in the church by HMS Heron Band at 7.30pm on the Friday. Tickets for this cost £8 to include interval refreshments.
There will be various activities on the Sunday afternoon starting at 2.30pm, including teddy zip wire from the church tower, a teddy bears’ picnic, plant stalls, an organ recital in the church and a history tour.
The weekend rounds off with a Songs of Praise service at 6pm on the Sunday evening.
STRATTON Summer Fayre takes place on Sunday, June 24 from 2pm on the Village Green.
The event features the Dorset Youth Marching Band, the Silver Diamond Majorettes and Bangles the Juggler.
There will be all the usual stalls and attractions including tombola, bric-a-brac, plants, games and refreshments – plus skittles, ferret racing, hawks, macaws and parrots, and the Jurassic Coast display. And back by popular demand is the Novelty Dog Show! (sponsored by Parkhouse Pet Supplies).
The £1 lucky number programmes give the chance of winning one of 5 fabulous prizes.
